FAQs About Trauma Scene and Bio-Hazard Situations

  • What is a trauma scene?

Normally a trauma scene cleanup involves cleaning up body fluids after a murder or suicide.

However, it can include many other things such as a death that was not discovered in a timely manner where body fluids were discharged or even a natural death where body fluids were discharged. These are typically referred to as a Biohazard Cleanup.

  • Are there special considerations in these types of cleanups?

Unfortunately, all of our bodies contain fluids that are considered potential bio-hazards. We naturally have a lot of bacteria in our digestive system that can be hazardous to others.

We also have the potential of having blood-borne pathogens such as viruses that can cause diseases such as hepatitis, AIDS and others. Sometimes we can be their carriers without knowing it.

  • What is involved in a typical cleanup?

Normally, we remove any porous and semi-porous materials that the fluids have visibly been in contact with. Some examples could be carpeting, beds and bedding, subflooring, drywall etc. If we have materials that have these body fluids that can be successfully washed, we will clean and disinfect these surfaces. We will then properly dispose of the removed materials and the cleaning solutions.

As these fluids can hurt us as well, we also protect ourselves by wearing protective clothing such as gloves, goggles, respirators and Tyvek suits.

  • What happens next?

After we have completed the cleanup, the area is safe for re-occupancy. Normally our cleanup procedure does not include reconstruction, but we will make some temporary repairs such as covering holes in floors where the flooring has been removed.

If repairs are required, our company can perform these as well. We have award-winning tradespeople on staff that is very capable of doing the repairs. In fact, we are the only company in our area that does the cleanup work and repairs with our own people.

  • How much does it cost?

This type of cleanup typically costs more than general household cleaning as it is more detailed and precise. The pricing also can vary greatly from case to case. However, we use “Industry Standard” pricing that is consistent with the industry.

It is common for these costs to be covered under the property insurance policy and our pricing is consistent with most insurance companies.

  • What happens if we need you at night or on a weekend?

You can call us any time. We are available 24/7 to help you with these difficult issues.
